Kissing and the Rain

I am a closet (well not anymore, I guess) Josh Groban fan. This evening while running errands, I was listening to that song "Remember When it Rained" on repeat. I LOVE that song. What I love most about it is how passionate it sounds. It always makes me think of smooching in the rain.

I know that's not what that song's about but that's what I think of every time. While listening, I always write book chapters in my head where two people come to each other in the rain and admit their feelings for the first time without saying a word……ahhhh…

This is the little slice of dreamland that caused me to miss my exit as I was driving to the church bookstore tonight to have my new scriptures engraved with my name.

You probably think that since Dan and I live in Seattle, all we ever do is kiss and schmoozle out in the rain. Not so, my friends, not so. In fact, I have never been kissed in the rain. The idea of it seems strangely appealing but in practice, I'm not so sure.

kissI once saw an interview with Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire where they said that the upside-down-kissing-in-the-rain scene from Spiderman was the least romantic, most awful kissing scene in the history of film. They say he nearly drowned, hanging upside down like that with rain running up his nose.

Aaanny-who. I like the thought.

The post I had been working on for today was a tender tribute to the first three years of Laylee's life. It is cute and sweet but I feel uncomfortable posting it after she spent today as a screaming ball of chaos (to steal a phrase from Stephanie), was sent to bed an hour early for kicking me and then peed on the floor purposefully as I was helping put on her pajamas. She has been so unbelievably sweet the past few weeks.

A fickle hood is toddler-hood. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

Movies and books do a great job of convincing us that certain things would just be so awesome and romantic. And then you attempt them in real life and realize that entertainment is just so fake.

But I still want to kiss in the rain someday. Just to see.

It was always the rolling around in the sand on the beach romance scenes that got to me. Really not very practical, but when the music plays and they are madly in love, ahhhhhh.

oh, the scene at the end of Four Weddings and A Funeral...
that's kissing in the rain, but not very good rain, and the sun seems to be out.
Oh well.

Kissing in the rain? Hmm I've got to try that sometime, too. But here in Houston where we "REALLY know how to throw a thunderstorm" we could be swept down a street drain and drown. Maybe not such a hot idea after all.

And as for Laylee's spasm of yesterday...Tomorrow is another day, Scarlet. Tomorrow is another day.

Kissing in the rain would be fun. Movies make it look so romatic. Beach scenes always fascinate me. But the reality of sand in places there shouldn't be sad is enough to make me say, no, not for me.

Well if that's not a dare for Dan to kiss you in the rain, then I just don't know :) No pressure Dan.

Ah, yes. The kissing in the rain scene in Breakfast at Tiffany's is where it all started for me.

I seem to recall having been kissed in the rain.

It's just wetter than normal.

kissing in the rain = seriously not worth it

Unless, of course, you have someone there to make sure you look IN-cred...uble with the hair, waterproof make-up, and the perfect outfit. Add the perfect background (ooh - fog and trees?), and of course you've already got a great guy. Make there be a stylist for him, too.

Lastly, add photographer to capture. Because it's so not worth it, you'll never want to do it again.

But at least you'll have a hot and sexy, or at least romantic, picture.

Kissing in the pool isn't so bad- not necessarily underwater- that can be tricky!

I have never kissed in the rain...But I have kissed in the sprinklers. They were not just your average lawn sprinklers either...Industrial park sprinklers. They were very cold and kind of hurt, but it was also kind of fun! Like "Oh No! Here they come, Kiss me you fool!" ... "Ouch oh dang, ouch, here move over, I want the water to hit you first...ouch!" My dh and I were dating and couldn't pass up the chance :)

I've kissed in the rain. It was one of the best kisses to date. We aren't dating anymore, and he's married now, but it still remains a great kiss.

I hope laylee does better tomorrow too!

Yeah, kissing in the rain just sounds wet and sticky to me. And I definitely don't look my best with mascara streaming down my face.

Kissing in the rain can be hit or miss, but kissing under a big umbrella while outside in a storm is VERY romantic and lots of fun, despite the umbrella-juggling. That's where I first got an "I love you" from my husband.

But then, nothing is ever quite as easy or romantic as in the movies. The kid thing, for instance. Darn challenging when the kick you... Sorry!

OK, Liz. I'm with you. Kissing in the snow is wonderful. The warm, wet, fluffy kind - snow or kiss. Take your pick.

Maybe it will rain on Valentines day and I will be kissed.

Milly was a terror right around her 3rd B-day. In fact the day before she had a horrendous fit at church. After a few days of being 3 she got the hang of this new phase and we've been loving it! B-days just bring out the worst sometimes. May the magic of being 3 fall upon Laylee soon...

I am not a fan of kissing...period.

You know, what is it with kids when you want them to do something they don't want to do, and all they can think of in rebellion is to pee on the floor. My Duchess is nearly 5 and she did that last night because I was making her wear panties to bed and she decided she wanted to go bed nekked.

I've kissed in the rain before. It was a "time to say goodbye" kiss, and the fact that it lingered even though we were getting wet was really special.
Then we broke up.
When I have a husband, I plan on giving him a checklist of romantic locales to kiss me in. As successful marriages thrive on providing one's husband with checklists.
Also, today at my blog, we're celebrating my blogiversary. That's right, folks...entry #6.

My daughter is 2.5 and I can go from wanting to eat her she is so adorable to wanting to strangle her... in under a minute, and then back again.

When I was first dating my husband we were taking a long walk when it started pouring. It was one of those really warm nights, so we weren't cold... I HATE being cold. It was romantic.

Is it possible that Charlie and Laylee have been e-mailing when we're not looking? Because he, too, has been a screaming ball of chaos lately.

Did you ever see the Notebook?

Another great rain scene with rachel McAdams and the guy.

I had a break up in the rain once.
It was actually pretty convenient because the tears were disguised.

Oh yeah, I married the guy a couple years later.
