Be a dear, would you?

Pick me up some apple boxes while you're at the grocer. We're moving, you see...

If I had big boxes, and lived in your state, I would give them all to you!! And I would help you pack them, even if I wasn't putting anything into the boxes, I would keep the kids busy enough so they wouldn't take things out of the already packed boxes.

PS It's a really good thing you have "Vinny" (that is what you named the van right?) to fit all those crates in, right next to the chill'uns.

Love you love you!! Good luck!

Laundry baskets work good in a pinch, but good ol' wal-metro, as you call it, will give you boxes on their unloading days. Just ask, they will pack you up a bundle, just get there early to pick them up or they will throw them out!

Good lUck. we are still moving things over to the house. Love the storage unit things that collect into giant piles of "why did I pack that away?"

I have tons of boxes! Just come on back and get them! Good luck this week. I am not expecting to hear much from you. We'll be thinking of you and praying for you and wishing we were there to help.

BTW I woke up this morning missing Magoo's smiles, giggles and flailing walk - Laylee's kisses & hugs & waffle mania And You & DYD's cooking, kitchen & computer help. Between the 2 of you, I think I have this blog thing down. Thanks for the tutorials! Love you!

Glad everything's official now! Besides apples, another great box for packing... liquior boxes (from your friendly neighborhood liquior store). Apparently, they're great for dishes. If you can do the move a carload at a time (which I still highly recommend if possible), you'll actually only need a few boxes that you can reuse over and over. Good luck with the move.

As others have suggested, liquor boxes work well. Bookstores often have great boxes because books are so heavy so the boxes are pretty reinforced, though they can be awkward sizes. I always use clothes, towels, sheets, etc. for packing material.

If you want to buy stock in Rubbermaid, their blue storage containers (at Target) work great for moving and storage - the biggest benefit, I think, is that they are stackable and you don't have to spend three hours trying to arranging mismatched boxed into a somewhat-stable stack. They are also easy to carry because they have handles.

Please let me know if you take my suggestion so that I can go out and buy Rubbermaid stock myself. :)

And just where are you moving? Staying in town or going out of state?

If you call Safeway, sometimes they'll save them aside for you (if you have a nice produce clerk). But I like the Rubbermaid idea too.

oh, and if you're concerned about your furniture and/or mattress getting damaged or dirty in the back of a moving truck, you could probably go to a furniture store and pay for a few furniture bags. I think it might run you as much as $15 a bag, but if you happen to had a $10,000 couch it might be worth it. ;)

If a nearby high school is still in session, find the yearbook advisor and ask for some of the yearbook boxes. They are PERFECT for moving -- all uniform in size, reinforced to hold those heavy books, and not too big. And if the school is big, there would be lots of them around for the taking. (I think they each hold about 18 books, so a school with 1200 kids would have 150 boxes.) If school is out, it's probably too late.

I think our grocer got sick of us when we moved. We were at his store, bright and wide eyed every day to pick up the boxes he promised us. We acted like we were holding out for some hot concert tickets or something waiting at his back door everymorning at 6AM! Good luck with moving, its gut wrenching.. :)

One of the reasons we stay where we are is because of the idea of getting all our stuff in little boxes and on a truck some where. Just the idea scares me..

My new favorite thing--freecycle.org. It's a Yahoo Group you can join, and people trade free stuff. I just gave away all my moving boxes to people on the list--if you have sec, check it out. There might be somebody who just moved in to your area who is willing to give you some quality boxes.

Of course, every other move we've ever made we used boxes from the grocery store--those work, too, especially if you ask them to save them for you in the morning. Good luck!
